Dev Blog 4 - Experimental Team PVP Mode

9/3/2019

We have just launched a major update (v0.115) to Neon Exile that starts a beta test of our new experimental team battle mode. This beta test will run for 1 week and end on September 10th. The standard PvE Fringe Sector will not be available during this time.

When you select the Fringe Sector cable in the main menu you will be taken to a team selection level and will be able to choose between the Vanguard or the Exile team.
  • You will not be able to change teams during the week-long test.
  • PvP and friendly fire is on, so be careful of you shots.
  • Turrets will target enemy players.
  • VERMIN will still spawn but will not have Colonies.
  • The Vanguard team will be based at A and the Exile team is based at B.
  • You will only be able to teleport to your own base.
  • Player name tag (above their head) shows their team color.

Goal
The goal of the battle is to destroy the generators of the enemy team. These can only be destroyed with an EMP Bomb and can be rebuilt after they have been destroyed.

The in-game maps will show current generator locations.
Resources
Resource Units will be team shared in this game mode. Meaning that there are no personal resources collected, all collected RU will go to a team bank and when you use the Fabricator the cost will be deducted from the team bank.

Generators
To build generators you will need to make all of the Generator parts from a Fabricator. This process is the same as building any other complex module like the Health Station or Fabricator. The parts of the generator are too heavy for one pilot to carry, you will need to either make 2 trips to team up to bring all of the parts. Generators will only work when built on an Energy Source (indicated by green smoke).

Feedback
Please keep in mind this is an experimental beta test and you are likely to encounter bugs, balance problems and mechanics that could be better. The goal of the test is to gather feedback from players on issues as well as the potential of including this game mode permanently.

We have also added new roles to our Discord server which will let you into channels for each team.

Dev Blog 3 - Release and Update 0.107

Yesterday we had our initial launch of Neon Exile into Early Access on Steam and received a lot of great feedback from players via Discord and in-game voice chat. It was really fun meeting players "in-person" in VR and showing them around the game.

We have created a brief help page that outlines the goals of the game as many players were confused about what to do in the Fringe Sector.

I'm also really impressed by the awesome zipline network players built and the huge number of resources collected.  Check out this leaderboard for resources collected (within just 1 day).
Update 0.107
Today we released v0.107 which addresses some of the main concerns with a few quick fixes. This doesn't cover everything and not every change is final, but mostly things we could add quickly to get the update out .

Full details for the updated items are up on our Development Roadmap:

https://trello.com/b/n5shJciI/neon-exile-roadmap
  • Less damage in the toxic fog
  • Inventory remains when you die
  • Added a healing zone to each spawn point
  • Added a VERMIN status board to show number of colony structures
  • Tweak to sound effects volume
  • Scrap items are now outlined
  • Some scrap piles have been moved up onto hills and rocks so not all are on the ground
  • Resource Unit capacity increased to 15,000 to allow for building of EMP bomb
  • Respawn set to closest spawn point

Dev Blog 1 - Welcome to Neon Exile

Over the past 6 months, our small indie team at Mythical City Games has been working to create a game that is desperately missing from the VR ecosystem. A persistent open world experience, where your actions matter. Every wall you build, every item you drop, every enemy you take out, affects a live simulation that goes on whether you're playing or not. Enter the world of Neon Exile, a sci-fi MMO built on top of a distributed server system that allows for this type of depth in a virtual world.
